A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to expecting mothers and their partners before, during, and after childbirth. The word "doula" is Greek term for a woman who serves.
While doulas are not medical professionals and do not perform medical tasks, they offer a variety of services that can make a significant difference in a mother's birth experience. Doulas provide continuous support and advocacy for the mother, helping her to feel confident and empowered throughout the childbirth process.

According to a survey conducted by Doulas of North America (DONA) International in 2020, 96% of parents who used a doula reported that they would use one again for future births, and 93% said that they would recommend a doula to others. Additionally, the survey found that having a doula present during labor and delivery resulted in a 25% reduction in the likelihood of cesarean birth, a 31% reduction in the use of synthetic oxytocin, and a 28% reduction in the risk of giving birth with a vacuum or forceps.
